12 Monkeys at Night

Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts, The Ridgway Library Building
I always wanted to photograph this building, so while I was out the in the wee hours of December 4th, I made it my last stop. The building was featured in the Bruce Willis movie, Twelve Monkeys. The Ridgway Library Building, which had been abandoned for 30 years when the film was made in 1995, has since won several awards for adaptive re-use since being renovated to house the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts.

The Doric Order Greek Revival structure, designed by Architect Addison Hutton, is listed in the City of Philadelphia Historical Commission’s Register of Historic Places.

Our trusty Mercury Zephr was my vehicle of choice for this shoot. I included it in this shot, as it did a great job of transporting me on this crisp AM on December 4, 2008.

Good Morning, Rocky Statue

6.5″ x 10″ photograph in matte
Friday’s daily photograph included the famous Art Museum steps. This controversial “figure”, brought to you by the city with the 45 foot clothespin sculpture, was originally on the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum. It was a gift from Silvester Stallone after the filming of his movie Remember the scene where he runs up the famous steps? It was proclaimed by the Art Commission as a movie prop and not “true” art and moved to the stadium. Then finally in 2006, it was returned to this location on the lawn of the Art Museum. There is a full history of the statue here.

I love the shadow it casts at night and the star the spotlight forms. Photographed December 4th in the AM.

Boathouse Row

Boathouse Row is a historic site located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on the east bank of the Schuylkill River. The original incandescent lights from 1979 were replaced with LEDs in 2005.

I took this photograph on December 4, 2008, around 3:25 AM.
