Introduction
I am a true believer in computers, especially their applications for photography. I want to share my enthusiasm and share the possibilities with others. Today, systems are finally affordable. To me, that's a dream come true. Let me tell you a little story which will share the degree of excitement this holds for me.

I had been working with computers since 1981. My prime motivation was the desire to do photo manipulation. For years, I had done special effects in the darkroom. I would spend hours on a single effect. The promise of greater efficiency and control was intriguing.

Around 1985, I remember being at a graphic arts trade show and seeing a computer which would perform the task admirably. It was made by Scitex. I return home to announce to my then future wife that I had found the computer I wanted. "How much is it?", she asked. "Only 1.3 million dollars.", I answered.

Today, I have a machine that is even more powerful. I cost me $3,500 two years ago. An even faster model is available now for $1,000 less. This is truly exciting.
