• RAM (Random Access Memory)
• This is the actual memory of the machine
• Programs and data are stored here when the machine is on
• Near instantanious access
• 20 Megabytes minimum
• Sufficient RAM will allow you to run several applications at once
• You can never have enough RAM
• CPU (Central Processing Unit)
• The BRAIN of the machine
• It's clock speed (mHz) tells how fast data can flow through it
• Use 486 or better (PC) or PowerMac
• Hard Disk
• Magnetic storage media, like tape, but coated on a several hard plattens
• Minimum 2 Gigabytes
• Hard disk is used for Virtual Memory (the computer substitutes hard disk space for RAM)
• CD-ROM
• Easy to install software (no disk swapping)
• Comes with support videos and documentation
• Stock available
• Kodak PhotoCD
• You can have you film digitzed to CD-ROM inexpensively
• Common to all new machines
• Backup
• Never trust important data to only one drive
• Modem
• Access to the Internet and a world of knowledge and customers
• E-mail (you can attach photos)
